Since I made a recommendation for older middle-grade readers a couple of weeks ago, it only seems fair to recommend a book for the younger side today. My feline intuition tells me you’re going to love Alvin, star of Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look.
Here is what the book description says about him:
Alvin Ho is an Asian American second grader who is afraid of everything—elevators, tunnels, girls, and, most of all, school. He’s so afraid of school that, while he’s there, he never, ever, says a word. But at home he’s a very loud superhero named Firecracker Man, a brother to Calvin and Anibelly, and a gentleman-in-training, so he can be just like his dad.
I give Alvin and his friends two paws up. I think younger and/or reluctant readers could definitely relate to Alvin and would lap up this book like a warm bowl of milk. And the illustrations by LeUyen Pham fit the story purr-fectly!
Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look. I highly suggest you get your paws on this first book in the series today!
